The Volta River Authority (VRA) says its engineers have begun investigating the cause of the nationwide blackout that lasted for almost an hour, on Thursday July 18, 2013.
Head of Corporate Affairs at VRA, Samuel Fletcher, told Joy News data they gathered by engineers around 6:40 pm on Thursday, indicated there was total system failure - a confirmation that the whole country experienced the blackout.
"It a is very rare occurrence, the possible cause could be anything", he said.
He said there was no way the VRA could have prevented the situation because of the complex and dynamic nature of the sector.
"We are expecting a report as soon as possible. I won't be able to tell...whether we'll get it in the next one hour or twenty-four hours but I know as I speak...[engineers] are analysing the data they have", he assured.
The VRA is mandated to generate and distribute power in the country.
