Alajo: Police car knocked and killed rider, another severely injured
A motor rider in his early thirties was allegedly knocked down and killed by a police vehicle at Alajo interchange in Accra on Thursday evening.

The deceased identified as Joe Boye and a resident of Caprice near Accra New Town was said to be riding with his younger brother on their way home when the accident happened.

An eyewitness who gave his name as Mohammed Amu told Myjoyonline.com that he saw the unidentified police vehicle pursuing the unregistered motorbike coming from the Achimota direction.

He said he observed while the vehicle hit the rear of the motorbike with its fender, pressed the bike against the sidewall and dragged it for a distance before letting go the motorbike.

According to the eyewitness, the rider lost control of the bike and smashed it into a nearby traffic light somersaulting several times. The traffic light could not withstand the impact and got broken.

The rider died on the spot whilst the brother, Kweku, sustained severe injuries including fractured limbs. He was however rushed to hospital in an unknown taxi. But eyewitnesses say his chance of surviving is slim.

Immediately the accident occurred the police vehicle refused to stop and rather sped off the scene and headed towards the Avenor township, another eyewitness who collaborated the story recounted.

When Myjoyonline.com visited the scene, Joe Boye was found lying lifeless on his side in a pool of blood with a severed jaw and bruises over the body.
