I used to wet my bed: renowned psychologist confesses

Dr Annie Gaisie

An addictive behavior psychologist, Dr Annie Gaisie says it is important for every parent to know their children as individuals, accept them for their various strengths, and provide a platform for the children to develop their God-given talents.

According to her, where children are not encouraged and supported to choose the right career, it can delay their progress in life or cause many problems.

Sharing her experience in an interview on Asempa FM mid-morning show dubbed Abrabo Doctor Gaisie said, as a child, she loved to write and could make a story out of any situation.

Doctor Gaise said her biggest dream was to be a writer but in her days, she said, certain professions were not classed as valuable and due to that most parents had other plans for their children and in her case it caused her delays and distress.

She talked about her growing up and her experiences in life. Dr. Gaisie was brought up by both parents, has 3 siblings and comes from a middle class family.

The British trained psychologist said her most memorable albeit painful experience in life was when she used to wet her bed as a child.

“No one knew the cause of my bed wetting at the time, and my parents took me to see doctors and anywhere they could to help me but nothing worked.”

She recalled: “My bed-wetting was then attributed to laziness. Some of my childhood friends got to know of it and this distressed me more causing me to remain isolated most of the time”

However, gradually she found different means of self-help therapy to stop the bed-wetting.

She said this did not affect her ambitious little brain with the determination to make it to the top in life.

Dr. Gaisie said she enrolled into journalism as she desired and after wards had the chance to present quite some interesting TV and Radio Programs which brought her into the limelight yet she still wanted more.

Very early in her career as a radio and TV presenter she left for the United Kingdom where she still pursued her career in broadcasting for a year.

In her attempt to prove to herself and the world that she would not let anything stand between her and dream to make it to the top academically she never gave up.

Doctor Annie Gaisie said her brief encounter with a psychologist at a meeting for the first time in her life in the United Kingdom transformed her entirely, she is now a professional psychologist and she is finally back home to her motherland to transform lives.

“Do not give up yet” she said, wherever you find yourself in life let it be part of the beautiful life you are building.
