The University Students Association of Ghana (USAG) has pleaded with President John Dramani Mahama led administration to “tap into the invaluable” resource base at the universities, for effective governance and accelerated development.
According to USAG, the university community provides huge resource to the nation which should not be over looked, especially in the areas of information, ideas, innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship.
In a release issued to congratulate Mr. Mahama on Tuesday January 8, 2013, a day after his inauguration as fourth President of the Fourth Republic, USAG also called for critical attention to be paid to some relevant issues affecting the youth, particularly, graduate unemployment.
“Your Excellency, we take this singular opportunity to draw your attention to the issues of youth (graduate) unemployment and the huge infrastructural deficit on our various University campuses; teething issues we face as a University community and as a nation at large. It is our earnest prayer that these issues shall receive critical examination, and that specific actions will be rolled out to effectively address them”.
The statement, however, expressed confidence in the Mahama administration to deliver to meet the people’s expectation.
“As a Civil Society Organization, the University Students’ Association of Ghana (USAG) looks forward to the support of your Presidency, appointees and the larger government machinery to enable us contribute our quota to the growth and development of the nation, and to the raising of our national flag higher”.
