National Service Scheme receives 11 Yutong buses

Vincent Senam Kuagbenu (L) commending Mr Lee Ocran

The Ghana National Service Scheme has taken delivery of eleven 35-seater Yutong buses donated by the Ministry of Education.

Out-going Minister of Education, Lee Ocran presented them to the Executive Director of the Scheme Mr. Vincent Senam Kuagbenu.

The buses which are to be used for the welfare of the staff - to help in their transportation from one point to another - would be distributed to the ten regions with one for the head office.

Mr Lee Ocran commended the scheme for its work in helping young graduates to adapt to the living and working conditions in the country since its set-up in 1973. He highlighted the successes chalked by the Scheme’s exploits in the various agricultural projects including crop farming, fish, rabbits, poultry and pig farming.

He said government is willing to support the scheme, noting, “Every means that can be used to make them feel comfortable will be adopted.”

The Minister cautioned the scheme to carefully maintain the buses to prolong their lifespan and thus serve its purposes for a measurable time.

After the presentation of the symbolic keys, Mr. Vincent Senam Kuagbenu expressed gratitude on behalf of the Scheme to the Ministry of Education and the government for the support.

Commending government for the gesture, he remarked that it was the first time since 1973 that more than one bus has been donated to help support the scheme.

He revealed that “currently there are over eighty thousand young men and women on the field helping improve lives in education, agriculture, health, local government institutions and even in the private sectors.”

Mr. Vincent Senam Kuagbenu assured the minister that the buses will be put into good use and properly taken care of.
